BIBLE MYTHBUSTER:
Is Christianity the only true religion?
|
|
RELIGIOUSLYINCORRECT.org
Many people in our world today are truly convinced that the religious path we take in life matters little to God—so
long as our convictions are sincere.
Indeed, even sincerity of conviction isn't terribly important, as long as
one is a "good person" (by one's own definition of "goodness")—or so they believe.
In fact, it's said that Elvis Presley—who was predominantly "Christian"—reportedly endorsed many other religions as well.
His religious philosophy was apparently to convert to various religions "just in case" Christianity wasn't
the truth after all. This way, he could be sure to be saved.
If this report is true, Elvis wasn't, or isn't, alone.
Many people today think that God—"if He exists"—cares little about the "path" to Him, be it
Christianity, Buddhism, Islam, or the like.
So, let's proceed now to examine this hypothesis...
HYPOTHESIS
"Christianity is not the only true religion, and God doesn't really care if we ascribe to other
religions—or if we have no religious affiliation whatsoever."
ANALYSIS
The purpose of this "Bible Mythbuster" is not to prove the Bible is true.
For these proofs, please refer to
Defending Christianity—which also
proves that God exists, that the Bible is God's message, and that the Bibles we hold in our hands today
come from accurate Greek/Hebrew base texts.
So, in this Mythbuster, our assumption is that you understand the Bible to be the true and accurate message from God.
Our goal here will simply be to examine what God says about other "faiths" or lifestyles that do not live by
the Bible—such as Islam, Buddhism, or the like.
And what the Bible says about this is extremely simple, clear, and straightforward...
What the Bible says about "other faiths"...
Jesus said:
I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.
(John 14:6)
And Peter said (speaking of Christ):
There is salvation in no one else—for there is no other name under heaven given to men by which we must be saved.
(Acts 4:12)
CONCLUSION
As you can see, these verses—among many others that could be provided—close this discussion rather rapidly.
Christ clearly stated that the
Christian faith is mutually exclusive of all other religions.
In other words, Jesus was not tortured to death on a cross for our sins "just to give us another option" to be saved.
He died for our sins because He was the ONLY sacrifice God would accept to take away our sins.
Therefore, not responding to this great sacrifice of love will have severe consequences. Jesus said:
For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him will not perish, but have eternal life.
For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through Him.
Whoever believes in Him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.
This is the verdict: the Light has come into the world, but men loved darkness instead of light because their deeds were evil.
Everyone who does evil hates the light, and will not come to the light for fear that his deeds will be exposed.
But whoever practices what is true comes into the light, so that it may be plainly seen that his deeds have been done through God.
(John 3:16-18)
Now, it's up to us to
accept, or ignore, this great sacrifice for our sins.
Christianity even "more exclusive"
But Christianity is even more exclusive than simply being rejecting of other religions of the world.
Even many so-called "Christian" religions are false, and being led by
"blind religious guides."
And the ramifications for following these false Christian preachers and religions
is serious—as can be seen from the following verses:
Dear friends, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, because many false
prophets have gone out into the world.
(1 John 4:1)
At that time many will fall away and will betray and hate each other,
and many false prophets will appear and mislead many.
(Matthew 24:10-11)
Leave them alone. They are blind guides. If a blind man leads a blind man, both will fall into a pit.
(Matthew 15:14)
But there were also false prophets among the people, just as there will also be false teachers among you—who will
secretly introduce destructive heresies, even denying the Master who bought them, bringing swift destruction on themselves.
Many will follow their sensuality, and because of this the way of truth into disrespected.
In their greed these teachers will exploit you with lies. Their condemnation has from long ago been established, and their
destruction has not been sleeping.
(2 Peter 2:1-2)
Therefore, it should be obvious that if "slightly" modifying the original Biblical message (as false Christian religions have done)
results in God's condemnation—then
the verdict for non-Christian religions that have dramatically altered the truth should be unequivocal.
